Founder & Portfolio Manager
Adam Thomas Contreras
Adam Thomas Contreras is the Founder and Managing Partner of The Blacksmith Fund, an AI-native private investment partnership focused on disciplined, fundamental investing supported by automation and systematic research.

Adam’s interest in markets began unusually early. He purchased his first stock and attended his first shareholder meeting at the age of nine, developing an early appreciation for ownership, capital allocation, and business fundamentals. He opened his first retail brokerage account at eighteen and actively managed capital throughout his academic years, gaining firsthand experience navigating real market cycles long before launching a professional investment partnership.

Over more than a decade, Adam has developed a deep foundation in valuation analysis, financial forensics, and probabilistic decision-making. His approach emphasizes margin of safety, downside risk awareness, and long-term compounding rather than short-term market speculation.

Prior to founding The Blacksmith Fund, Adam completed Columbia Business School’s Executive Education Value Investing program, where he refined his understanding of fundamental analysis, capital stewardship, and investor alignment under frameworks used by some of the world’s most respected long-term investors.
With a background spanning finance, business strategy, and applied AI, Adam integrates traditional investment discipline with modern tools designed to reduce behavioral bias, enhance research efficiency, and support repeatable decision-making. Automation and machine-assisted analysis are used as research aids—not replacements for judgment—allowing for deeper scrutiny of businesses, balance sheets, and risk factors.

Adam’s investment philosophy is grounded in the belief that risk is best understood not as short-term price volatility, but as the probability of permanent capital impairment—an idea articulated by Benjamin Graham and central to The Blacksmith Fund’s capital preservation mindset.

“In current mathematical approaches to investment decisions, it has become standard practice to define ‘risk’ in terms of average price variations or ‘volatility.’ We find this use of the word ‘risk’ more harmful than useful for sound investment decisions because it places too much emphasis on market fluctuations.”
— Benjamin Graham
Beyond investing, Adam maintains a discreet, long-term oriented operating philosophy, prioritizing security, integrity, and disciplined execution. His leadership at The Blacksmith Fund reflects a commitment to professionalism, transparency, and alignment—ensuring that capital is managed with the same care and precision as a craftsman forging tools meant to endure.
